Tuomas Markunpoika

These wooden vases are certainly beautiful, but you might not guess what they’re actually made of. Finnish artist Tuomas Markunpoika, of Studio Markunpoika, glues hundreds of pencils together in sheets and then used a machine lathe to carve them down into these bizarre and beautiful vases.

“I want to design objects that endure time, objects that you fall in love with and will not throw away,” he added. “I don’t believe I can achieve the same visual effect with other materials.”
