6 Podcasts Celebrating Design

We all know how daunting life in the design industry is. The web is constantly evolving, the progresses of technology and innovation slips through even through the most caught-up mind, new terms coming up – how do we even catch up?

The wonderful thing about the advancement of technology and design is that there are many tools and techniques surfaced to help you keep up. One of them is podcasts, which is one of my favourites — since I can listen to them while working, driving, commuting, cycling etc. — basically, on the go and in the midst of something else too.

Here are 6 podcasts celebrating design of all aspects, that we at Stampede love:

1. Adventures in Design

adventures-in-design

Curated is all about celebrating design, the processes and the wonderful people behind them, so it is apt that Adventures in Design makes it to this list. This show discusses the culture of design and illustration, giving a lot of mentions about the individual creatives and how they work, what have they learned, their passion, inspirations and many more.

2. Design Matters

design-matters

Design Matters with Debbie Millman is one of the best and the first design podcasts. Shaped around the concept of a coffee-shop conversation, the series delves into the topic of design and an inquiry into the broader world of creative culture through wide-ranging conversations with designers, writers, artists, curators, musicians, and other luminaries of contemporary thought.

3. Businessology

businessology

Rather than asking if designers should code, the better question we should be asking is should designers also be in the part of shaping business strategy? The answer to that is a resounding yes — which is why we think Businessology should make the list. The podcast series covers the business of design and the design of business, of which you shall get insights into how to translate your passion projects into full-fledged business, onboarding your team and clients, implementing design thinking into your business and many more. (P/s: Check out Bizcraft too!)

4. On the Grid

on-the-grid

We all know how design has real effects on the world – it is more than just font, colours, placement, patterns etc. On the Grid‘s purpose is just that — to offer philosophies and reflections on all aspects of designs, from storytelling, processes, lessons learned and many more. Hosted by Andy Mangold, Dan Auer, and Matt McInerney, the series had reached its finale last March but every recap of the episode is always refreshing.

5. The Urbanist

the-urbanist

If you are into architecture, you will love The Urbanist. Under Monocle’s radio network, editor Andrew Tuck presents an exploration of the rapid evolution of modern cities and the people driving the changes. The weekly look at urbanism examines everything from water to crime to how ugly buildings get built.

6. Boagworld

boagworld

I am new to Boagworld, but boy am so glad to find it. As we are in the industry of web design, Boagworld covers web design and user experience topics — from the perils of building HTML emails, the lives of web entrepreneurs, understanding your users, building a career on the web, flat design vs skeuomorphism and many more!
